The Main Float Nurse supports workflow across all areas of the center. Key duties include starting IVs for Prep Nurses, verifying and managing specimens before they are sent out, and providing break coverage for Procedure Room and PACU nurses. They assist with procedures requiring more than one nurse, help unload and stock supplies, and step into any area where additional support is needed to maintain smooth operations.
The PACU Float Nurse specializes in supporting both nearby Prep Bays and the PACU team. They start IVs in the prep area adjacent to PACU, clean and prepare stretchers, assist PACU nurses with patient care, and check specimens in the pathology room. This nurse is also responsible for managing patients who return from procedures requiring isolation precautions, ensuring patient's safe recovery and compliance with infection control standards.
