NPO for 3 hours prior to procedure, clear liquids only on procedure day
Ask what their stools look like now
Transportation - Input driver’s information, how far away, and if it’s ok to share information
Meds/Allergies
All allergies must have a reaction or “unknown”
Latex & Egg allergies must be acknowledged
Each med must have name, dose, unit, route, frequency, and last used date
People on blood thinners: May need to have held for 2-5 days depending on which medication and reason for taking
Alerts
Limb - Sleeve & place do not use sticker on sleeve
Fall alert - Red socks on patient or one red sock tied to IV pole
Allow patient to dress into gown, everything off including underwear, bra and socks are OK to stay on for colonoscopies. Everything from the waist down and bra can stay on for an EGD
Vital Signs
Report abnormal VS to anesthesia and document
Health History
Each section acknowledged
Diabetic patients:
Blood sugar taken prior to procedure and documented in health history and in station note.
Dexcom devices must be removed prior to procedure
Neuro/Musculoskeletal
No seizure in the last 6 months
TMJ - See how wide patient can open for EGDs
Pregnancy Status
If patient is 59 years old or younger, last period date must be recorded & pregnancy waiver must be signed unless patient had a hysterectomy
Tampons and pessaries must be removed prior to procedure
Tobacco history
Document how much, how long, when they quit if they quit
Alcohol history
Document how much and how often
Recreational drug use
No marijuana after midnight the day of the procedure
No illegal drugs within the last 6 months
Kratom/hallucinogenic mushrooms must be stopped within 1 week prior to procedure
Patient Assessment
Stop/Bang score
Measurement to identify people who may have sleep apnea.
